PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder): Ptsd is a diagnosis usually given after a single traumatic event, with symptoms that last longer than 6 weeks. PTSD symptoms are a normal response to an abnormal event.
An example of what can cause PTSD could be an accident.
C-PTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder): This is not an officially recognised diagnosis (within the DSM). C-PTSD is a cluster of trauma responses that are a consequence of on-going, or repeated, traumatic events. Usually stemming from childhood, CPTSD has an element of grief or is impacted by relationships.
An example might be abuse or neglect in childhood.
I bring over 20 years of experience in mental health, working with trauma, and 18 years practising counselling and psychotherapy in a variety of settings.
I'm trained in all the usual therapies, plus newer psychotherapies that are designed to treat and heal trauma specifically.
